The Palace at Washington Square

The Pagoda Palace theater stood on this site from about 1907, when it opened as the Washington Square Theater, until it closed in 1994 and was demolished in August 2013. The cleared lot did not sit empty after that. From 2013 to 2015 the city leased it as the extraction pit for the Central Subway tunnel boring machines, Big Alma and Mom Chung. The homes now occupy the upper four floors, above a ground floor restaurant space of roughly 4,700 square feet.
