Saitowitz designed this building as a contemporary counterpoint to the First Baptist Church across the street, on the gateway parcel where the elevated 101 comes down to meet the street grid at Market and Octavia Boulevard. Operable exterior louvres let each home modulate its own sunlight. The plan is organized around light filled interior courtyards rather than a single street facing wall.
